You know that feeling when you roll up to a place and immediately think, "Yeah, this is gonna be good"? That's Pholklore Caloundra. Right there on Bulcock Street, number 110, sitting pretty where the old Ray White and Cocoa Spice Cakery used to be, these legends from Victoria have brought something special to our stretch of coast.

Energy and atmosphere.
Walk in and you'll get it straight away. Big communal tables that practically beg you to pull up a seat with your crew. Beachy energy that feels like Caloundra through and through. This isn't your quiet, reserved dining experience. It's about the buzz of mates gathering, chopsticks clinking, and that satisfying slurp of a massive bowl of pho.
The space got a full makeover, but they've kept that signature Pholklore feel that made them an institution down south. It's laidback without being sloppy, lively without being chaotic. The kind of spot where you can rock up sandy from the beach or dressed up for a night out, and you're good either way.
Delicious eats, pho’ sure.
Let's talk about what really matters – the food. Pholklore does Vietnamese-inspired Asian fusion, and they do it bloody well. Their menu is packed with the classics: proper pho (both traditional and fusion styles), fresh rice paper rolls that practically melt in your mouth, punchy salads that wake up your tastebuds, and share plates designed for exactly what they sound like – sharing.
The chicken katsu rice paper rolls have achieved legendary status. Apparently, they tried to take them off the menu once and the people demanded them back. That's the kind of cult following we're talking about. The pho comes in bowls so generous you'll be questioning your life choices by the end (in the best way possible), and the laksa hits with all the right notes of coconut, spice, and comfort.
What makes it even better? They're working with local Queensland suppliers to bring in seasonal specials and regional ingredients. So yeah, you'll get the Pholklore favourites that have built their rep, but there's also room for experimentation and keeping things fresh.
Washing it all down.
The drinks list is exactly what you want it to be. Vietnamese beers like Beerlao, Beer Hanoi, and 333 sit alongside local favourites like our very own Rage Juicy Pale. They've got cocktails that, according to the crew, "tend to sneak up on you". Consider yourself warned. Red Bull Watermelon Margaritas? Yep. Red Bull Tropical Gin? Got it. Plus wines ranging from local Sunshine Coast drops to interstate selections.
Fast service, high quality.
Here's what we love about Pholklore's whole deal: they keep it real. Traditionally walk-in only, so no stressing about booking weeks in advance for a casual feed. The food lands fast, fresh, and full of flavour. They've nailed that sweet spot between casual and quality.
The team behind Pholklore – brothers Dom and Josh Friend, along with Thomas McGrath, Jacob Hardiman, and Dylan Teixeira – started this thing back in 2017 in Victoria. They've grown from one venue to five, and when they were looking to expand to Queensland, the Sunshine Coast felt like the natural fit. As co-owner Dom Friend put it, we've got "that nice balance of coastal lifestyle, community spirit and long-term growth" that matches what they're about.
A great addition to the Sunny Coast dining scene.
The Sunshine Coast has always been about more than just the beaches and tourist spots. It's the local businesses that build community, the spots where you become a regular, the places that understand what makes this coast tick. Pholklore gets it. They're not here for a quick cash grab, they're here to grow with Caloundra, to be part of the fabric of Bulcock Street, to become one of those places you automatically think of when someone says "where should we eat?"
Whether you're ducking in for a quick lunch, settling in for dinner with a big group, or grabbing that essential after-beach feed, Pholklore Caloundra delivers. The communal tables mean you might end up chatting with the crew next to you. The walk-in policy means spontaneity is your friend. The food and drinks mean you're leaving happy.
So next time you're wandering down Bulcock Street and wondering where to eat, look for number 110. Pull up a seat at one of those big communal tables. Order too much food (you won't regret it). And raise a glass to another spot that's making the Sunshine Coast even better.
